Studio Wayne McGregor worked with young people from the boroughs of Lewisham and Greenwich to create and perform Ice Floe at the Trinity Laban Conservatorie of Music and Dance, Creekside (London, UK).
The Ice Floe dance performance by performing arts company Studio Wayne McGregor explores the extremities of our planet, which have for centuries fascinated human beings. Here at Ice Floe amidst sub-zero temperatures, strange auroras and immense glaciers, 50 specimens take part in a dangerous living experiment. Trapped, Contained, Watched 24/7 - how would you survive? Someone holds the key to release them from their Antarctic destiny - their blazing escape. The search is on.
Hotbox Studios worked in collaboration with Studio Wayne McGregor to produce 3D arts animation for Ice Floe. The abstract animation was projected with the performance; created to compliment and add a further dimension to the choreography, score and lighting design.
Ice Floe is a Christmas Youth Dance Project, an annual collaboration between Trinity Laban Conservatorie of Music and Dance and Greenwich Dance Agency.
Collaborating on Ice Floe were Wayne McGregor (Concept, Direction and Choreography), Sigur Ros (Score), Odette Hughes, Jasmine Fitter, Matthias Sperling, Freddie Opoku-Addaie (Creative Team), Chris Charles (Technical Manager), Laban Costume Department (Costumes), Mark Hatchard (Animation, Visual Effects and Editing) and Edmund Kollen (Animation and Visual Effects).
