Scripture Union Web Application Development

Scripture Union came to us in need of a web application to help them recruit and manage the staff and volunteers who run their events. We've worked with Scripture Union to develop a highly customised version of our PAAM web application, developed to slot in seamlessly to Scripture Union's well established staff and volunteer recruitment and management workflow.

Following it's initial launch, we've worked with Scripture Union extending the web app to incorporate event and holiday attendees; allowing for the booking and payment of holidays.

Event Staff and Volunteers

On the user side, the web application we've developed allows for Scripture Union's applicants to setup either a staff or volunteer account, search and filter event opportunities based on integrated Google Maps locations, event dates and types, then easily apply to join Scripture Union at either an event as a whole or apply to a specific team at an event.

Throughout the process applicants are kept up to date with automated email and SMS notifications based on applicant and event status, with all massages sent logged within the web application.

The event staff and volunteer side of the web app also offers a resource library for documents, images, and videos, with features including: single and batch file uploads; structured folder layout with editable names and descriptions; file search, filtering, and editable tagging; documents assigned by user, group, or event.

For the administrative team at Scripture Union the web app offers reference and parental consent request and submission, overseas checks including Borders and Immigration, passport and visa, leader based approval prior to event acceptance, online payment options, additional application process states and substates, custom imports and exports, and event and team specific questions for applicants.

Holiday Attendees

The holiday attendee side of the web app offers a wealth of features including: single and group holiday bookings; account based management with viewing, filtering, booking and payment; consolidated group booking communications; multiple booking forms based on holiday type; full and split payment models e.g. deposit and further part or full payment; prices based on age; discount codes; email templates based on user type; reporting including financials, room shares, dietary requirement, parental/guardian consent; statistics covering all attendee bookings, options chosen, and financials.

Technical

Technical development on the Scripture Union web application has included a completely custom front end using bespoke CSS, JavaScript and HTML, an integrated block based page editor for event info pages and core system pages, API based DBS checks using Atlantic Data, JSON API WorldPay merchant payment integration.

We've moved the Scripture Union payment gateway to Braintree allowing for SCA compliance, with integrated 3D Secure Fields in the frontend, and Webhooks in the backend. We've also helped Scripture Union to move their OAuth provider to Microsoft Azure AD; integrating Microsoft Azure AD OAuth using PHP and the OAuth 2.0 login flow seen commonly across the web in the form of login with Facebook or Google.

For resilience and redundancy a mirror of the Scripture Union web application has been deployed to a separate data centre to allow for expedited recovery if required.

Scripture Union's web application includes a wealth of functionality by design, and as a responsive mobile friendly cloud-based system is accessible from anywhere in the world on any device. Being a custom designed web application, As Scripture Union's requirements change, their system can evolve with them, new custom features can be developed and added on-demand to fit the developing needs of the staff and volunteers using the Scripture Union web application.
