Aegis the Union was formed in 1971 as a staff association. Aegis grew and gained independent status as a trade union in 2008. The focus of Aegis the Union is on workers' rights in the Finance Industry.

The new Aegis the Union website combines three pre-existing websites which were Aegis Reps - rep meetings and discussion, Union Learn - learning opportunities offered via the union, and Aegis The Union - for promotion of the union and to keep existing members up to date.
The new Aegis the Union website is driven by the Umbraco Content Management System (CMS); this allows the Aegis team to quickly and easily update the website. Newsletter mailing functionality is built into the website and CMS. The website incorporates Responsive Website Design (RWD) which adapts the layout of the website for predictable delivery to desktops, notebooks, tablets and smartphones. To enhance the website's design Google Web Fonts and Font Awesome are used.
The Aegis the Union website includes a secure member's area providing advanced membership functionality for the 400+ Aegis the Union members allowing for multiple member groups and permissions; advanced role options for the union's reps allowing for new content to be added and approved as required; Import and Export of data via the Umbraco CMS API.
